Grandma Joy's House

Orlando, Florida

2017

This has been my Grandmother's home for 47 years. It is a time capsule of my childhood. I stayed here for 6 days in January 2017 and ate from bowls I used when I was 2. I sat on a sofa I remember playing on. I slept in my grandmother's room - with 100+ dolls looking at me. Everyday I would have a memory of an area and it was really unique and amazing to be standing there

- in the space of that memory.

My Grandmother's front door area. That window was my aunt Holly's room, she is only 3 years older than me. I played in this area a lot. I think this home is where the seeds for design where planted. I remember appreciating the comfort this space made me feel. I thought about that window ledge and the materials used to build this home - I would trace my finger on those blocks lines. The house has always been pink and white. Inside it is pink, turquoise, and 70's muted orange. I see how those colors influence what I photograph and how a print. That angel has been hanging there for over 30 years.
